Microbial DNA concentrations from DNA extraction using Qiagen PowerSoil Pro DNA Extraction kit and subsequent Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) from core samples collected and preserved for microbiology (SSK105556 and SSK105560) from UKGEOS Glasgow Observatory, borehole GGC01. DNA extractions and subsequent amplification using PCR indicate levels of microbial DNA below detection limits. NERC grant SHAPE-UK NE/R018006/1.
Loan IDA number IDA271576. Microbial DNA concentrations from DNA extraction using Qiagen PowerSoil Pro DNA Extraction kit and subsequent PCR from shale and sandstone core samples collected and preserved for microbiology (shale SSK111456 and sandstone SSK111457) from UKGEOS Glasgow Observatory, borehole GGC01. DNA extractions and subsequent amplification using PCR indicate levels of microbial DNA below detection limits. Samples and data are derived from the UK Geoenergy Observatories Programme funded by the...
Loan IDA number - IDA271576. No data was obtained for microbial cultivation experiments with core samples SSK111460 and SSK111461 from UKGEOS Glasgow Observatory, borehole GGC01. Samples and data are derived from the UK Geoenergy Observatories Programme funded by the UKRI Natural Environment Research Council and delivered by the British Geological Survey. Attached document described methodology of enriching sandstone core (SSK111461) in different media types and shale core (SSK111460) in synthetic groundwa...
The <250um fraction of 19 household vacuum dust samples (collected by citizen participants during 2019-2021) were extracted using high throughput isolation of microbial genomic DNA and sequenced using Illumina NextSeq (12 samples from a national campaign within the UK, 7 samples from Greece and a negative reagent control included to ensure sterility throughout the processing and sequencing steps). These data are available (following period of embargo) from the European Nucleotide Archive via the individual...
EngD thesis describing experiments carried out using a variety of sandstones. This thesis investigates the microbial response to 10 ppm oxygen and 100ppm oxygen in experiments representing deep saline aquifer conditions. All experiments were conducted using sandstone, artificial groundwater and a microbial community designed to represent conditions found within deep saline aquifers. A microbial community, containing sulphate reducing bacteria, was isolated and identified from sandstone samples and then use...
H2 adsorption data on sub-bituminous coal as a function of pressure. Hydrogen flooding of a coal core. Micro CT imaging of the effect on coal swelling after hydrogen injection. Hydrogen is trapped, and no swelling is observed indicating that coal might be a good candidate for the storage of hydrogen.
Microfossil samples submitted to the BGS are currently registered using the prefix 'MPA'. Samples include rock, residues from sample preparations, and slides of mounted specimens. Rock, residues and slides from the same sample all bear the same unique identifying sample number. The numbers MPA 1 to 51000 have been used, but this grows steadily. There are currently 21 volumes of registered samples.
Microfossil samples submitted to the BGS biostratigraphy laboratory are currently registered using the prefix 'MPA'. Samples include rock, residues from sample preparations, and slides of mounted specimens. Rock, residues and slides from the same sample all bear the same unique identifying sample number. The numbers MPA 1 to 54400 have been used, but this grows steadily. There are currently 21 volumes of registered samples. The value added dataset comprises data for each sample held in the sample register,...
Added value microfossil analyses carried out on material from the British Continental shelf are included. Sample number, borehole details, locality and geological information are given together with microfossil identification. The identification logging sheets are housed in box files. Symbols included: CSA1-2205 Continental Shelf Unit North; CSB1-6047 Continental Shelf Unit South; CSC1-7134 Offshore microfossils; CSD1-507 Offshore microfossils; CSE1-6826 Offshore microfossils (incidental and occasional mac...
Three volumes of SAM samples (SAM1-SAM4789) exist. They represent the work of FW Anderson in the 1950s and 1960s. All samples were re-registered into other datasets. They are predominantly from the Cretaceous and Tertiary. Sample number, fossil type, locality and geological details are given, including borehole name and depth where appropriate.
