2004 Strategic Environmental Assessment SEA5 Braer macrofauna data report, ERT 1109 (North Sea)
This report is a contribution to the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA5) conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (now Department of Energy and Climate Change). Macrofuanal analysis was undertaken on 61 seabed samples from 13 locations to the southwest of Shetland that were contaminated by oil from the Braer tanker spill. The data report presents the resulting species list and abundance data, together with biomass data and the size measurements of selected taxa.

Data Quality
The samples were collected in September 2003 using a Day grab and multicorer as part of the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change's Offshore Energy Strategic Environmental Assessment programme. ERT (Scotland) Ltd (ERT) were commissioned by Geotek Ltd to undertake macrofaunal analysis of the samples. All samples were washed over a 0.5 mm meash sieve and preserved in ca 4% formaldehyde. All work carried out followed ERT's ISO 9001:2000 quality management system. To ensure quality was maintained throughout all of the laboratory process all work underwent continuous checking, with a minimum of 10% of all samples fully checked during the sorting procedure and additional random checks were also made during the process.
