Chondrichthyes Teeth and Dentitions including extant and fossil taxa. Phylogenetically basal actinopterygian (Polyodon) for comparison. (NERC grant NE/K01434X/1)
Computed tomography (CT) scans of extant and fossil chondrichthyans, of teeth organized into functional dentitions. These scans were taken on a Nikon Metrology HMX ST 225, in the Image and Analysis Centre, Natural History Museum, London.
Fossil, dry skeleton, and preserved specimens were mounted for scanning. Our focus was on complete dentitions from embryos to adults. Raw scan data was processed using X-Tek software associated with the Nikon Metrology scanner. This produced VOL and VGI files which can be opened in a variety of 3D rendering programs: VGStudio Max, Drishti and Avizo have been used to produce images in the accompanying folders.
