XRF-derived elemental abundance data for the Pliocene of IODP Site U1448 (NERC grant NE/N012100/1)

This data was generated at the University of Kiel, Germany by Wolfgang Kuhnt, paid for by Dr Littler as part of her 2016 NERC Moratorium Award. The data comprises XRF-derived elemental abundances from two Holes (A and B) for International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Site U1448, spanning approximately the Pliocene period.

Data Quality

Core sections were continuously scanned at 10 mm resolution using an Avaatech EDX core scanner, to produce qualitative abundance data for 14 elements (Al, Si, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Rb, Sr, Rh). Over the two Holes this equates to over 30,000 measurements for each element.
