Groundwater Vulnerability to Pollution C factor map (Concentration of flow) in karstic aquifers of Catalonia according to COP

Concentration of flow factor map indicates the reduction of protection of the groundwater surface due to karst development. It is expressed as a value according to COP index ranges from 0 to 1, being the range of lowest values (0 - 0.2) the one that indicates a very high reduction of the overlying layers protection (factor O), and the range of the highest values (0.8 – 1) a very low reduction of the overlying layers protection.

Data Quality

The concentration of flow factor map has been calculated considering the different parameters as slope, vegetation and degree of karst development. To identify the areas affected by karstification, it has been used the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) 5x5m cell size (ICGC) and geospatial analysis tools. In addition, other data have been processed as swallow holes inventory, karstic morphologies defined in the Geomorphological map 1:50.000 (IGME) and in Geological Maps of Catalunya at 1:50.000 and 1:25.000 scales (ICGC). Moreover, the vegetation map of Catalunya has been employed to determine the vegetation cover density and the DTM for the slope calculation. All these parameters have been combined, as indicated in the COP methodology, to calculate the "C" factor value, according to COP ranges.
