Stable isotope, sedimentological and geochemical data from Holocene lake-sediment core YC2 from Yaal Chac, Mexico (NERC Grant NE/K00610X/1)

Dataset contains an interannual to sub centennial resolution record of carbonate oxygen and carbon isotopes, bulk sediment geochemistry and sedimentology from a 2.95 metre-long core (YC2) from Yaal Chac. The core was dated using a combination of radiocarbon dates and short-lived radio-isotopes. Data are presented in Metcalfe et al (2022) Quaternary Science Reviews https://doi.org/10.1016/j.quascirev.2022.107445

Data Quality

Cores collected in ≥10 m water using modified Livingstone and Glew corers. Chronology provided by AMS radiocarbon and short-lived radio-isotopes (details in Metcalfe et al. 2022) Organic carbon and carbonate content estimated using loss-on ignition at at 550 and 950 DegC, respectively. Bulk sediment geochemistry determined using a Cox Analytical ITRAX XRF core scanner at Aberystwyth University. Oxygen and carbon-isotope analyses of carbonate undertaken at University College London on samples treated with 12% ‘chlorox’ overnight to remove organic matter, rinsed and sieved though a 125 µm sieve to remove shell material and thus isolate endogenic fine fraction, which was dried and analysed using a ThermoFinnigan Delta Plus XP mass spectrometer + GasBench. Isotope values are in delta notation relative to VPDB , with 1s uncertainty of better than ±0.15‰ (d18O) and ±0.10‰ (d13C)
