X-Ray Diffraction Data showing mineralogy of samples collected from slag banks (Warton, Glengarnock, Derwent Howe, Harrington) in Scotland and northwest England (2022-2023) (NERC Grant NE/X009718/1)

This dataset contains the raw data from X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis of samples from 4 different field locations - Warton, Glengarnock, Derwent Howe, Harrington. The data was collected in 2022-2023. The data was collected for the purpose of identifying mineralogy of the collected samples. The data was collected by John MacDonald and Robin Hilderman (University of Glasgow) who retain the original data.

Data Quality

Powdered samples were analysed using a Malvern Panalytical Empyrean with PIXcel3D-Medipix3 1x1 detector using Cu Kα radiation (wavelength 1.541874 (Å)). Data collection was collected in Bragg-Brentano reflection geometry 5-80° 2θ, with a step size 0.0131°. Minerals were identified from the raw data using the Crystallographic Open Database. The relative file paths of the files shouldn't not be changed. Most file types (.hpf2_bak, .xy, .xrdml) are not to be opened but are instead read when opening the .hpf2 files using HighScore Plus software from Malvern Panalytical.
