Many tephra layers were identified in sediment cores drilled during IODP Expedition 350. Here, 1092 glass shards from 76 tephra occurrences (layer or patch) were analysed using electron probe microanalyses (EPMA). Data are not averaged, nor normalised. Geochemistry data were collected for: SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, Cr2O3, FeO, MnO, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, P2O5, SO3, Cl and O. Secondary standard data are given, as well as beam setup conditions. The data were obtained using the instruments at the University of Bristol...

Elemental and stable isotope data measured in Eocene foraminiferal calcite from Ocean Drilling Program Site 865 and Tanzanian Drilling Project Site 18 published in Edgar et al. (2015) "Assessing the impact of diagenesis on δ11B, δ13C, δ18O, Sr/Ca and B/Ca values in fossil planktic foraminiferal calcite" in Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, v. 166, p. 189-209. Table 1. δ18O and δ13C values for glassy and frosty foraminifera from TDP Site 18 and ODP Site 865, respectively. Table 2. Sr/Ca and B/Ca values, and ...

A core scanning dataset from part of the Ellesmere Port-1 drill core that was drilled for unconventional hydrocarbons in 2014. Approximate 40 m of core from the Bowland Shale Formation in the Ellesmere Port-1 (1532.7 – 1663.15 m) was scanned for high-resolution optical images and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) downcore point measurements using the Itrax MC core scanner (Cox Analytical Systems) at the Core Scanning Facility (CSF) at the British Geological Survey. Core scanning was utilised as part of the commissi...

Marine ferromanganese crust deposits are potential mineral resources that contain base metals and strategic and critical elements such as cooper (Cu), cobalt (Co), vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), titanium (Ti), platinum group elements (PGEs) or rare earth elements (REEs). Traditionally, marine precipitates are defined as: a) purely hydrogenetic when all constituents are derived from cold seawater, (b) diagenetic, when all constituents are derived from cold sediment pore water; and (c) hydrothermal when precipit...

EMODnet Seabed erosion is an index map collected within project EMODnet geology, WP3, Seabed substrate. The dataset includes index areas of available seabed erosion studies and related background information provided by project partners from European waters. Mandatory information includes identification code, country, data provider, contact info, sea area, seabed erosion type, study description, method and reference. Additional metadata includes e.g., DOI, purpose of the study, data availability and format...

The European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) consists of more than 100 organisations assembling marine data, products and metadata to make these fragmented data resources more available to public and private users relying on quality-assured, standardised and harmonised marine data which are interoperable and free of restrictions on use. EMODnet is currently in its fourth phase. BGR participates in the EMODnet Geology theme and is coordinating the “seafloor geology” work package from the begin...

Engineering-geological map of the Republic of Srpska 1:300 000 is the first clear map of Srpska that shows engineering-geological structure of the terrain. Engineering-geological map of the Republic of Srpska 1:300 000 and the Interpreter, contain a general presentation of all elements of the geological environment and provide quick information on all important issues related to engineering geological structure of the terrain, the character of the rocks and soils, condition and properties of rock masses in...
The map illustrates basic components of geological environment, that is classified on the basis of similarity or homogenity of that signs, which have meaning from point of construction geology, engineering geology and geotechnics. In case of rocks and soils it is mainly lithological composition, similar index, geomechanical or geophysical characteristics, while f.e. stratigraphy (age) is put down. These similar rocks are aggregated into zones with same or similar engineering geological characteristics. The...
